Wave Creation
Many waves were created using a grid system, and we wanted to have the waves play in a structured order as to have the whole play area in danger as much as possible. I was responsible for the designing, set up, and timing of each wave and the ordering to create a fun and engaging experience for players.
To create an interesting experience, we created Multiple block types:
Normal Block - Falls and lands on the platforms, wobbles and drops after a few seconds. Kills any player underneath
Drill Block - Hits the platform and slowly drills down through the platform. Kills any player underneath
Paint Balloon - Instantly destroys the platform it hits and Stumbles players within its radius
Double Height Block - Introduced in Legendary, acts the same as the normal block, but could block off areas
Legendary Version
The level was so well received by the community that we moved directly into creating a Legendary version, which would give more of a challenge, but would also give us more time to experiment with some new challenges from a player and from a developer Point of view.
I created a new, double height block, which allowed the creation of more stepped areas, and walled of waves.
We implemented the ability to nest waves within groups, which allowed me to create pools of potential waves that would work with each other well, whilst also bringing a random element to the gameplay.
